Twas another great day at the League! As I led my 1 year anniversary (Jan 16) and my birthday (Feb 1) Q this morning, it caused some self-reflection on how F3 has impacted my life. Shout out to @Rubberneck and @Cricket for EH’ing me last winter and convincing me to show up to Sequoyah Park at 6am on a Saturday in sub-freezing temperatures to play ultimate frisbee! I drove up last January expecting maybe 12 guys, and was blown away to find a full parking lot and a tournament going on with teams & jerseys! Shout out to @Panhandle for picking me up that first morning and adopting me as a part of his team! A lot has changed in my life since then!
I had gotten extremely out of shape during the pandemic. In May of 2020 I had gotten up to around 230lbs. This morning, I weighed in around 190! Most of that 40lbs is thanks to F3! I’m about to be 31 and it’s crazy to think that in the first year of my 30s I’m in better shape than I was in my 20s! The 1st F results are obvious, but I have benefited tremendously from the 2nd & 3rd Fs as well. I’m so thankful for a group of guys who come together at insane hours of the morning to hold each other up and push each other to be better men, husbands, and fathers. 2021 was the hardest year of my life by far, but I’m so glad I had F3 (and especially the League) to look forward to every week. I love you guys!
This morning was a blast! Thanks to all who came and celebrated with me!
Highlights
- MVP goes to @8-bit for his (questionable) slam dunk win! π Team shirts was ahead (by a lot) the whole game, but at game point (20-3 or something) @10-Key delivers a clutch flick to @8-bit in the middle of a bunch of traffic, and on the multiplier attempt @8-bit dove from the spot of the catch to slam dunk the disc in the front slot of the Kan-Jam goal for an instant win! I thought about arguing that it didn’t count and you have to throw it, but decided not to for several reasons: 1) It was a pretty incredible feat of athleticism. Full layout dive and successful slam dunk. 2) @8-bit immediately ran off the field in celebration of his victory. 3) I’ve learned it’s best to not argue with @8-bit about the rules π
- Runner-up MVP goes to @Myrtle for his aggressive shut-down defense today! Way to beat the fartsack with 8 kids at home and show us how it’s done!
- Welcome to @Lurch & @Scoby! So glad y’all came out and looking forward to you being regulars!
- Welcome to @Jimmy Neutron! Several big sliding catches and humbly submitting yourself for a rename!
- Hammers are my favorite. So good to see them implemented by so many PAX today.
- I think more points were lost today by the multiplier twist than gained π
- Regular Ultimate
- Brimstone Twist:Β At least 1 throw per drive must be a hammer.
- If you complete a pass to your end zone but a hammer has not been thrown that possession, it is not a score yet. Play continues until a hammer has been thrown and caught. For example:
- You can do that within the end zone for a score.
- You can throw it out of the end zone, then a hammer back into the end zone for a score.
- You can throw it out of the end zone and continue play until a hammer has been completed, then throw back in the end zone for a score.
- If you complete a pass to your end zone but a hammer has not been thrown that possession, it is not a score yet. Play continues until a hammer has been thrown and caught. For example:
- Multiplier Twist:Β The thrower and receiver have the option to attempt a multiplier by playing Kan-Jam. (They can choose not to go for it and keep their 1 point)
- The Kan-Jam goal will be placed in the back-center of the end zone (out of bounds, basically where the field goal is)
- The throw can be taken by the thrower or receiver from where the catch was made.
- The score (1) will be multiplied by whatever Kan-Jam points they make:
- DINGER – 1 point: Disc is deflected and hits any part of the goal.
- DEUCE – 2 points: Thrown disc hits the goal unassisted.
- BUCKET – 3 points: Disc is deflected and lands inside the goal. This can occur through the top of the goal, but may also occur if the disc is deflected into the slot opening.
- ZERO – If they do not hit the goal or make it in the goal, then their score is multiplied by 0 and they earn no points for that score. Pull as normal.
- First team to 21 points wins
- Or INSTANT WIN – Disc lands inside the Kan-Jam goal unassisted on a multiplier attempt. (The disc must enter through the slot opening on the front)
