YHC invested into this BD/activity since he was “on the bench” at work. It’s a POKER RUN… well… POKER RUCK!

YHC picked out 10 waypoints around downtown Canton, then used Google Maps to determine coordinates (not sure which coordinate system Gmaps uses… too lazy to look it up… it’s whatever Google Maps defaults.) Listed the 10 out of a Google sheet, and then wrote a Google script to scramble the name of the waypoint (along with code for a bunch of other ideas including generating 4×6 cards via the script, front & back hints, it was getting ridiculous so I stopped). YHC then printed out 5 copies of only the spreadsheet of coordinates (with instructions & hints), placed them in 5 laminated covers, and then folded & stapled 52 playing cards and placed 5 of those cards into 10 zip locks. Tossed and turned all night considering the permutations of the endevour.

YHC woke at 3:15a, gathered all the materials, assembled a gift pack for 2 PAX, loaded the truck with ruck sack, materials & flag, then headed to AO. YHC had printed a map of the waypoints, and determined most efficient path to distribute card packs. Oh… and YHC brought a bucket of softballs to give PAX more visual indication of where the card packs were located. YHC drove around to first 9 waypoints, some of which gave concern for neighbors thinking… “what is he placing there… is he up to something mischievous!” Got 9 distributed then upon #10 waypoint YHC  COULD NOT FIND THE FINAL CARD PACK!!! A mad scramble of searching the truck multiple times… nowhere to be found… YHC drove back around all the waypoints… could not find out… to hell with it… 9 will do.

YHC returns to AO, plants the flag, and realizes he’s got 35min until startex… finally PAX start to arrive, but instead of 10 PAX which would have been 5 teams of 2, 8 PAX arrive so we have 4 teams of 2. YHC assigns 3 captains to pick their partners, then hands out the laminated waypoint sheet, posts a cheat sheet with the scrambled waypoint names in the Slack channel, and off we head all in different directions. Charmin & YHC look back at PAX scrambling to enter 22 characters into their phones while we use the advantage of outer lap of known waypoints to get’r done. Charmin collects cards as we make our way around perimeter of downtown. Some serious speed was accomplished by having a mission. We crossed the paths of other PAX making their way to different determined waypoints. Some instances of PAX walking right past another “close” card pack because they were laser focused on a different one. Two waypoints were farther out from main downtown streets, and one waypoint (the 1st on the list) didn’t have a card pack (YHC explained this in the beginning) although some PAX thought it just meant no softball.

All PAX rendezvous back at or before 6:15. Some teams picked up more than 5 cards after realizing their time allowed for an additional point (YHC should have realized this before start and gave instructions… although it was also a tip in the Slack channel). We let first arrivals display their cards 1st then go in order of arrival. Mostly high card until Charmin pulls out a freakin FULL HOUSE. YHC and his partner win it… there was much consternation and mumblechatter about that development. The competitors showed their true colors! :p

YHC awards his 1/2 of prize to relatively new PAX, Sorrie! Display the F3 sticker on proudly Sorrie!

Fun morning, good times, lots of laughs, COT full of gratefulness & prayers for those sick & hurting in our community.
