INTRO:

I do not have much to say about yesterday’s workout other than 4 Pax ran to the loop around the Outlet Shoppes of Atlanta with a little extra time around Woodstock to finish at right about 4.5 miles. I had all kinds of witty and remarkable things to say, but can’t really think of any right now. Yesterday we lost one of our own. Darth Visor passed away.

I can not claim to have known Darth better than others. I only know him through F3 and an Alta tennis match where his team took on mine. (I would have absolutely loved the mumble chatter had I been able to play against him that day.)  I do know some of his family members, including his nephew Crack. I would like to share one story for the Pax who did not know him.

I first met Darth a little over three years ago. Crack had finally convinced me to come to Wills Park to try F3. What Crack didn’t tell me was that Wills park was playing host to a 5k that morning and the streets to the regular parking lot was blocked off. I was able to find a parking lot on a nearby street and began to mosey through the Park trying to find a group of guys ready to work out in a sea of people ready to run. That is when I met Darth.  He was wearing a maroon F3 shirt, so I followed him. He asked me who brought me out. I told him Jonathan. He replied “Crack.” I did not know what to think having no knowledge of F3 nicknames yet.

Darth lead the second half of the beatdown that morning. What I remember most about that day was crawling through the grass. It had been a long time since I had run around on a grass field with the morning dew still wet. The smell made me think of all the times I played sports growing up. I was hooked on F3 pretty much from the start. Darth played a part in it. He was a redwood original for Alpha and Big Creek.

On behalf of F3 Cherokee, I would like to thank him for his contribution to F3. He and the other pax from the early days gave it away. That’s something we hope to continue.
