INTRO:

When Hombre asked that YHC fill-in for his absence today by leading the Witch, the first thought that came to mind was Hills — we’ll make heavy use of the hills, both on the way up and at the crest.  It will be as if we’re only running UP hill.  And t’was!

WARM-O-RAMA:

Long mosey from the Trail Head to the open field with the old barn.  Circle up, and 10 Weed Pickers and 15 Imperial Walkers.  Back to the track, for an explanation of the dark-ops beatdown.

THE THANG:

The objective was to complete at least a 5K.  At the top of every hill climb, this QIC and YHC would call out a Mountain Climber exercise extension, one of the following — Mountain Climbers, Mountain Climber Mercans (by the way, can we come to an agreement on the proper spelling of Mercans?  My understanding is that it is derived from “American Push-ups,” and therefore ‘Mer(i)can, for short.  Not Merkin, a female toupee worn by 18th century prostitutes, so they say), and Mountain Goats (a 4-count Mountain Climber followed by the equivalent of a donkey/goat kick with both legs).  At the bottom of any hill, we would complete a set of 15 Reverse LBCs.

By a rough count the PAX completed a couple hundred mountain climbers of differing varieties and probably 75 Reverse LBCs, in addition to maybe 50 mercans while covering over 3.25 miles.  This terrain is tough, and if any PAX so desires a tough cross country run in a short distance and time, the Witch will sweep him away.  And by the way, Mountain Goats are brutal during any set above a full 20; one feels the burn to be sure.

There were a few times this QIC wandered off trail but was able to lead the PAX back; the PAX could never find any of Hombre’s pull-up bars; there was apparently an “almost merlot” at the peak of the final, brutal hill; and the dog was completely spent and yet Floppy was responding to his calls.
