Intro:

It was YHC’s 50th Birthday Beatdown Bash! Signed up about 6 weeks ago to Q the Happy Jack to get some RESPECT the day I turned 50. Waited anxiously to get off the F3DL make it happen.

No better way to start a birthday than with the PAX in the Gloom. Besides, after GoodEats I’ve been craving Waffle House Hashbrowns ALL THE WAY, so I had to make sure to do something to earn it.

Anybody heard of FARTLEK? From Wikipedia… Fartlek means “speed play” in Swedish, is continuous training with interval training. Time for some Merkins and Fartleks.

Warm-o-Rama:

0530 MOSEY. Back up thru the parking lot (Hello FIA!) to the trail entrance by the Roundabout. Along the way we did Butt Kicks, High Knees, Carioca High Knees and Frankenstiens. We stopped there for some stretching (Wait – they have stretching in F3?). Then off we went.

The Thang:

It's Fartlek time. The PAX ran as a group at a steady pace around the trail, with various PAX calling out a spot in the distance. Once the spot was called, it was GO TIME! As fast as you can run to that spot. The first PAX to arrive started Planking and Merkins waiting for the SIX. Once the SIX arrived, we performed 10 additional Merkins as a group. RINSE and REPEAT. The PAX performed several types of Merkins, Regular, Wide, Military, Diamond, and continued to run as a group until the next spot in the distance was called. 2 Full laps + Partial 3rd Lap + Mosey to/fro the Flag = 3.8 miles. Finished with Mary followed by Happy Jacks called out by C4.

Naked Man Moleskin:

An amazing year for YHC. Started F3 on 1/1 last year. Celebrated 1 year on 1/1 this year. F3 means more to me than you guys know. Check that. YOU DO KNOW! F3 is the only New Year's Resolution I've ever stuck with, and it killed me to sit out on the DL. Glad to be back. See you in the Gloom…
