INTRO:
YHC had not been to The Lions Den until today, so made sure to arrive a little early to get the lay of the land. A brisk mosey around the grounds and YHC got in a solid mile pre-beatdown just checking out some of the nooks and crannies. There are endless possibilities at this AO for a good Q.
For today’s beatdown it should be known that YHC grew up in North Carolina, where basketball is a religion. YHC is a complete basketball junkie. With the start of the season it was only fitting to write up a beatdown from all worst basketball practices YHC endured through the years.

THE THANG:
YHC LOVES basketball. It is the greatest game on the planet. It involves all the best aspects of all sports. Strength. Endurance. Agility. Teamwork. Camaraderie.
One the best games to play in your driveway or on any hoop is “Around The World”. In order to win around the world, you must make shots from all angles around the basket. Thus it is only fitting that we begin with some “Around The World” lunges in cadence. But to begin, QIC asked the PAX how many pieces of Halloween candy were stolen from their 2.0’s last night. Several of the PAX picked up on the query and quickly answered ZERO. One PAX said “dozens”. Very well then….. A dozen around the world squats it is.
After much grumbling QIC said the last three words any basketball player wants to hear from their coach. “On the line”. Once everyone shuffled to the baseline we did defensive step-slides from baseline to baseline and back holding our defensive stance (air chair) for the six. With no rest, rinse and repeat. Rinse and repeat again.
Next were some good ol’ down and backs followed by a dozen merkins, hold plank for the 6. Rinse/repeat down and back with TWO dozen merkins, hold plank for the 6. Rinse/repeat down and back with THREE dozen merkins, hold plank for the 6.
Now that we have played around the world, honed our defensive prowess, and worked on our conditioning we are ready for some one-on-one. Just kidding….. Virtually every game of one-on-one is played to 11. Most pick up games are played to 11. So we did some 11’s with Merkins and Star Jumps running the length of the court in between.
Now that we have some of the individual aspects of the game under our belt it’s time to work on some teamwork. Partner up. Carry partner length of the court. Both do 5 burpees. Switch up and partner carry back to original baseline, do 5 burpees. Rinse/Repeat. Rinse/Repeat again.
Ensure you have a partner approximately your size. (YHC was partnered with FNG “Scrum” who outweighs YHC by at least 60-70 pounds. It was definitely a good workout for YHC.)
To continue working on teamwork and camaraderie the PAX did partner rows (x20) then both PAX did 10 Carolina Dry Docks. (Because YHC favorite team is the Carolina Tar Heels.) Switch Partners and repeat.
With time running out, mosey back to the flag. To continue working on our endurance and conditioning the PAX found a nice spot on the curb in the parking lot. As it is with most sports, in basketball, your team cannot score without the ball. Typically you get the ball by rebounding a missed shot. In order to do this you must jump as high as you can to grab the rebound. QIC played the song “Ladies and Gentlemen”, by Saliva. PAX did continuous step-ups on the curb throughout the song. Whenever the song said, “BOOM!” the PAX jumped as high as they can.
When the PAX returned to the flag it had fallen to the ground. As penalty all PAX did 10 burpees.
Perfect timing, though no time for Circle of Mary.
CIRCLE OF TRUST:
Various second F opportunities on the horizon. Also, Babyface setting up the service ruck this weekend at Etowah Park.
Keep EHing the men around you. F3 is not just about fitness and it’s not just about you. It’s about the man next to you and about the man who hasn’t yet posted. As the Apostle Paul wrote, we are to “carry one another’s burdens” (Galatians). EHing men who haven’t posted and/or posting for the man next to you are little things we can do to carry each others’ burdens and to “encourage one another daily, so long as it is called today” (Hebrews).
Naked-Man Moleskin:
FNG Scrum – played rugby at uga. Also he is the size of a mountain. YHC had to carry him during partner carry. Glad to step up to the challenge.
FNG Roman – Father-in-Law to Ol’ 96er, named after John Candy’s brother in movie “Great Outdoors”
FNG Dash – son of Ol’ 96er. Ran cross country and brother is named Jack Jack. Just seemed fitting to keep in The Incredibles naming theme.
FNG rename – YHC is failing at his job in the moment and cannot remember what he was re-named. Original name was Seamen (formerly in Navy). Pronounced semen. Apparently not well received by his M and family. And not something that can be easily yelled through the grocery store or at church. Thus the site Q a renaming felt appropriate. However, YHC is failing to recall what his new name is. Thankfully YHC knows Fleetwood (the Site Q) is on top of this kind of thing.
