INTRO:
Day 4 was a special day because YHC was the Q with his Southside brothers. 7 PAX beat the fartsack this morning. Got to meet Lexi, newer PAX, for the first time and then we started things off with a mosey promptly at 0530. Wait, here comes Bubba Aziz pulling up late so we circled back to sweep him up and then we moseyed to the bottom of the staircases in front of the Middle School.

WARM-O-RAMA:

Keeping up with the tradition, there were no SSH in this warm-up. The exercises were:

10x Windmills
10x Squats
OYO Sun Gods (frontwards and backwards)
Michael Phelps

Since we were already in place at the first corner it was time to explain the first routine. The inspiration for this 4 corners beatdown came from 4 familiar routines that we’ve all done at some point thrown together in one beatdown. Enjoy!

THE THANG:

Corner 1: 11’s

Simple routine that we’ve done a hundred times. Thank you Tiny Tat for the inspiration here. The PAX are given 2 exercises (Box Jumps and Derkins). Starting with Box Jumps (we used the concrete wall under the stairs) the PAX would perform 10x Box Jumps. They would then perform 1x Derkin. This routine continued decreasing 1x Box Jump and increasing 1x Derkin until they performed 1x Box Jump and 10x Derkins. The sweat was flowing early. Short mosey to corner number 2 which was just down Melancholy Hill near the benches.

Corner 2: The Circle Burp

The PAX formed a circle (YHC was part of the circle). One the command ‘exercise’ they would starting doing SSH. The PAX to the left would perform 1x Burpee. Each pax, moving in a clockwise direction, would perform 1x Burpee and shout out the number. All other PAX would continue with SSH. This routine continued until we hit the magic number of 30x Burpees. A quick 10-count was a must after this one. Glad I modified it from 50x Burpees. No need to move to the next corner yet, we are going to get there using the next routine. On to corner 3.

Corner 3: The Quarter Pounder

Technically, this Quarter Pounder starts at Corner 2, but we end up at corner 3 so it still counts. For those unfamiliar with a Quarter Pounder it is a routine performed using a 100yd stretch or something close enough. There are 4 stations (each at 25 yd marks). On the command ‘exercise’ the PAX sprint to the first station (at 25yds) and perform an exercise. After the exercise is complete, the PAX sprint back to the starting point and then turn around to sprint to the second station (at 50yds). This is repeated until the PAX end at the final station. YHC directed the PAX to hold fast at the 100yd mark which was corner number 3 (your welcome). The exercises were:

25yds – 25x Merkins
50yds – 50x Squats
75yds – 75x Mountain Climbers (Rubicon Count)
100yds – 100x SSH

We swept up the 6 and then did another 10-count. Reward for completing this corner was a walk to corner number 4. Too bad it was only about 15 feet. Corner 4 had us at the base of the Grapes of Wrath hill. For those that are familiar with The Vineyard know that this is a beast of a hill. Time to end on a high note!

BurpBack Mountain

A Bloodhound favorite. PAX partnered up (we had 1 group of 3). The goal was simple. 1 PAX performs Burpees while 1 PAX runs up the hill and back. The PAX then switch and he picks up the Burpee count where his partner left off. The other PAX then runs up the hill and back. This was repeated until the PAX reached 100 Burpees. Still no merlot, but I nearly pulled an Elvis sprinting up the hill. That would have been bad since the bathrooms were about 1/4 mile away. Final 10-count. Time to head back to the flag.

Lined up for an Indian Run to head back to the flag. Took a detour so that Tiny Tat and Lexi could get their gear. Bubba Aziz also peeled off to pick up his stuff and meet us at the front of the school. Beater really killed it with the pace on the final push to the flag, perfect way to finish things up. Made it back to the flag with 3 minutes to spare. Final task, find Bubba Aziz! I thought we lost him for a second but then we found him and at 0615 YHC called it. Great work this morning men!

CIRCLE OF TRUST:

Name-o-rama, 6th Man (called and audible and had Lexi do it since he was new), prayers and praises. Prayers for all the PAX running races this weekend. There were a decent number.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

Day 4 was great. The turnout so far has been better than I could have imagined so being able to Q only 7 PAX was awesome. I really appreciate the inspiration I have gotten over my time at F3 to be able to Q a beatdown from what I have experienced. For those traveling to race this weekend, stay safe. Looking forward to the festivities tomorrow at Crossroads. SYITG!
