INTRO:

Excited for Day 2, YHC showed up early to do some recon and get things ready. 11 PAX rolled in…no wait…here comes Grylls like a bat out of hell complete with screeching tires to round us out to an even 12. 0530 hit and it’s time to mosey, not! Special Guest appearance….Pain Sticks! Everyone grabbed a coupon and prepared to move out.

WARM-O-RAMA:

Zamperini Run (sticks overhead) to the backside of The Cheetah (everyone knows the real party is in the back of the Cheetah)

Circle up for the warm-up. Exercises were:

10x Squats (with sticks)
10x Windmills (with sticks)
10x Merkins (stick on top of hands)

*Gasp*  No SSH in the warm-up. What is going on here?

Main event time. Need to explain the rules.

THE THANG:

Erect Poles and Mumble Lulls

Before we can begin the routine we need to explain the rules. At no time can the sticks touch the ground. Any failure will result in the PAX having to perform 3x Burpees with the stick and their hands behind their backs. (YHC performed 1 for demonstration and it was damn near impossible so this should be funny). With sticks in hand the PAX lined up on bus lane #1. One the command ‘exercise’ they PAX will mosey to the end of the bus lanes (#16) and perform the exercise and then mosey back to bus lane #1. This routine is repeated until all the bus lanes are ‘cleared’. The exercises were:

Big Boi Situps

Curls
Air Presses
Lunges (Kodiak Count)
Merkins (stick on top of hands)
Squats

Easiest way YHC could explain to remember the routine was the diddy ‘B Calm’. Surprisingly not a lot of mumble chatter during this routine other than the careless whispers (George Michael reference) between Kiffin and AC. We still never figured out what they were whispering about. Grylls entertained himself by literally shaking his stick and saying ‘it sounds like one of those rain sticks’ without skipping a beat. I’ve still never seen that guy sweat. I’m starting to believe he might be a Cylon (Battlestar Gallactica reference). First finishers held Air Chairs while they were waiting on the 6. Quick 10-count and then we moved on the experimentation phase.

Is This Your Stick?

The PAX formed a tight circle, facing outward, and took a position on their 6 with sticks in hand. On the command exercise, the PAX would all perform flutter kicks while holding the stick in the air. They would then begin passing their sticks to the left until their stick came full circle back to them. Should anyone drop a stick the punishment would be sprints. This did not work out as I had planned, but it did inspire some mumble chatter so I consider it a win. Notable moments included:

– This pole is sticky! Why is it sticky?
– I’ve got your pole
– Too many poles, there are 3 of them!
– That’s a heavy pole for as short as it is
– some reference to a tuna can that is not safe to publish (Dixie Chick)
– You hold that end of the pole and I’ll hold this end

Somehow we had trouble getting back to the starting position so YHC called it a fail and the PAX ran to the end of the parking lot and back. Another quick 10-count.

Running the Train on The Cheetah

The PAX lined up facing the school and assumed the Merkin position with their stick on top of their hands. There were 2 PAX per bus lane to keep the distances even. On the command exercise, the PAX at the very end would get up (stick in hand) and then box jump over the line of PAX. As the moving PAX approached the PAX in the Merkin position would perform a Merkin for assistance. Once at the end of the line, the moving PAX assumed the Merkin position and the last PAX then started moving. This routine was performed until all PAX had a chance to run the train. Most notable moment:

– Chitwood decided to ‘poke’ a PAX in the 6 with his stick while he was moving. Not sure who the unlucky recipient was, but they were very surprised, haha. Final routine.

Pole Buddies

PAX chose a partner (There were 12 PAX so it worked out). This routine is a partner race. 2 teams would race at a time. Both sticks had to be held (1 PAX in front and 1 PAX in back holding sticks on each side). On the command ‘exercise’ the PAX sprinted to the end of the parking lot. Winner chooses an exercise for the Loser using the stick (not to exceed 10x reps). Once all teams completed we walked back to the other end of the parking lot, switched partners, and performed the routine again. Harp and Harding were beasts. All you heard was screaming when they took off. Final 10-count.

PAX lunge walked with the sticks to the other end of the parking lot. Once all PAX gathered it was time to head back to the flag. Zamperini run back to the flag for the finish. Day 2 is in the bag!

CIRCLE OF TRUST:

Name-o-rama, forgot 6th man, prayers and praises.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

Prayers for Bloomers and Spanx going through job losses. Prayers also for Chitwood’s brother and for Mackenzie who Homeboy served on his Lighthouse ministries mission who are both in hospice.

The support and accountability this week have been amazing. I’m really loving how the PAX are starting to travel more and branch out of their normal AO’s. Also definitely appreciate the mumble chatter and the humor. This would not be nearly as fun without it. Day 3 will be at The Playground. SYITG!
