INTRO:
Covering for Westside, who was out of town, I planted the flag by 5:15. Â I wanted to make sure I was early enough that any potential FNGs or PAX new to the Vineyard would know where to go. So, I stood around waiting…waiting…waiting. Â I thought to myself, “Self, where are the regulars?” The minutes ticked by and I began to get a little nervous. Â Finally, a car pulled up and Spock joined me in the gloom. Â We caught up a bit and then decided to get this beatdown started.
WARM-O-RAMA:
We moseyed up to the usual Warm-o-Rama location for some very casual exercises.
15 SSH (In cadence, is cadence counting necessary for two? I decided to do it anyways)
Weedpickers OYO
Sun Gods OYO
We set off for our new location.
THE THANG:
Approaching a brick wall I began to give the lowdown for the Thang today. Â (Good thing we both brought gloves)
We did 10 pull-ups (or 10 seconds of cadence counting, to ourselves). Â The pull-ups were done holding on to the ledge of a brick wall. Â We had to remind ourselves not to use the wall as leverage for pulling up.
15 Merkins
20 Shoulder Taps (Kodiak Count)
As we were finishing the first part, Bubba Aziz came running up the hill towards us. Â Awesome! Now we are a trio! I explained the workout to him and we continued on.
We ran up an incline in front of Mill Creek Middle, backwards of course. Â Once at the top of the hill we proceeded to do some leg exercises. Â Because what pairs better with a backwards ascent of a hill than more of the same?
20 Squats
20 Lunges
Down the stairs to a light pole and it was time to bear crawl back to the beginning to repeat the loop. Â We completed 3.5 laps with all the exercises above.
With enough time to spare, we ran back to a nice grassy spot near the flag for an abridged portion of Captain Thor. Â We completed the Mary up to 5 BBS : 20 American Hammer. Â All of felt like Mjolnir was placed on us and we had only completed half the recommended number.
We finished up in time to mosey to the flag for the TOT.
CIRCLE OF TRUST:
It’s hard to make a circle with only 3 so we made a Triangle of Trust. Â We shared a few concerns and then prayed it out.
Naked-Man Moleskin:
Expectation is not always equal to reality. Â No matter how much you prepare for a given situation, you can not anticipate fully what will happen. Â While preparing for the beatdown I had an expected number of PAX I anticipated showing up in the gloom. Â My expectations were based on previous experience. Â Experience can be a good guide for future circumstances but it is never a guarantee. Â The circumstances I encountered this morning were not what I expected but they were just as good. Â Having a small group of guys gave us the opportunity to have a meaningful conversation and I am grateful for their presence today.
