INTRO:
After an extremely disappointing weekend of football (YHC is a Dawgs and Vikings fan – yes, I lost to both Homeboy and Manning in the same weekend) I was looking forward to getting a solid workout in. I felt like crap yesterday – fighting off a chest cold, and my stomach was bothering me all day. Haven’t been sleeping too well. Went to bed ready to Q, but I lined up Westside to cover the Q just in case I had a rough night. Grateful for a good night’s sleep and waking up at 4:45 feeling ready (ready enough I guess) to Q. I was expecting my FNG Sparky to join us again (hasn’t been back since his first time), but got a text at 5:10 saying he was out. Bummer. I’ll keep after him to get back here.
Pulled up and saw Westside and The Mole finishing up a pre-ruck – nice work gents! Was glad to see The Mole back down to the Vineyard for a visit. Wiggum showed up too, I believe his first time with us!
WARM-O-RAMA:
Long Mosey up to the parking lot in front of my favorite little wall – quick warmup with 15 SSH, 10 weed pickers, 10 windmills.
THE THANG:
The plan for today is a 4 corners routine, but a long exercise at each corner so just once around the block. Stole this from Westside, except doing it in reverse order and with something different at the end. This makes use of some of the great spots at this AO all in one workout, I love it.
First up, 11s at my favorite wall. Box jumps and Derkins. The wall is a great height to push yourself on both exercises. Just high enough to make it uncomfortable, but not out of reach. I’m dreading the day someone busts their shins on a box jump slip up on these concrete blocks – but nobody so far!
Mosey’d on over to the Grapes of Wrath – our amply named biggest hill at the AO – for some Burpback Mountain. Partner up, get to 100 burpees total. One partner doing burpees, the other is running the huge hill, just up and down once before switching out. I say running, but it quickly turned into “moving slowly up the hill in whatever manner you can manage“.
Mosey’d over to the parking lot circle in front of the high school, for a Quarter Pounder. Sprint to each lightpole doing a different exercise at each, sprinting back to the start in between. Exercises were 25 merkins, 50 squats, 75 mountain climbers (kodiak count), 100 SSH.
At the final corner, we killed ourselves slowly with the Curb Crawl. Lined up on the curb about 15-20 yards from the opposite curb. Bear crawl, then when you reach the opposite curb do 1 Derkin. Bear crawl back across, 2 Derkins. YHC’s instructions were to go until you hit 10 Derkins or I call time. Honestly based on the last time we did this (at my VQ) I didn’t expect anyone to hit 10 in time. But oh was I wrong! Beater finished up first, closely followed by the Mole, and then the rest of us. Beater LOVES bear crawls. A hidden talent! Seriously though, I was impressed we all finished with enough time to mosey back to the flag. Great job men!
At the flag, we had 1:15 left so we elbow planked at 6 inches until time. That last 15 seconds seemed like 60. Ouch.
CIRCLE OF TRUST:
Quick COT. Mentions of a few of the challenges/activities going on on in Dec, and a reminder for help at the Lights of Hope locations. Closed us out in prayer.
Naked-Man Moleskin:
Great job men! Thanks for making me better. There is no way I would have worked out today on my own given the way I felt yesterday. But knowing you guys were gonna be out there and I was signed up to Q was enough. So glad I made it this morning! Keep posting for each other and for the guys who don’t even know what F3 is yet.
