Cadre Roony was a GORUCK Cadre who was beloved by many. As a former Ranger, Josh Hass, was a good man, who loved his family. He fought courageously against pancreatic cancer. He passed away surrounded by family and friends at his home April 4, 2019.

Today, I chose to honor him with a modified version of a WOD created to honor him. Why Not? He deserves it. He fought for my country, and afterwards, he helped everyday people become better Americans.

(Pause)

Chops' dad was there. He didn't want to just sit at home. He wanted to be with his son, even though he didn't understand what his son was doing at 5:15 am on a Wednesday. How many people really understand why we willingly choose to put a 30+ pound pack on our back and do work in a park reminiscent of the gates of Hell? Well, I know one proud dad has a better idea of why.

COT: This COT meant something. Something more than they usually do. Four guys who may have never known each other from any walk of life, met at a flag in a foggy field. We talked and we prayed. Together. Shields locked.

For Biebs' kid, for Hooch, for Chops' kids, for 8 Bit's patience, for Hasbro's discipline, for God to make us better... leaders, fathers, and friends.

Naked Man Moleskin: Isn't that rucking? Everyday people, who have families, who have fears, who have opinions, who have issues, met together for an hour of work. Before 8 or more hours of work.

I hope I never lose sight of this day. Few really understand what draws us to that canvas pack, that weight, that pain. Because in our world of comfort, where we make everything as easy as possible for ourselves, there are people out there who aren't satisfied. Who want more. Who WANT to work.

Life is work. Don't be fooled into thinking it is anything but. Christ was pretty explicit about it in John 16:33:

"I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world."

Trials and sorrow. Fear and anxiety. Surround us.

And sometimes you have to do more. One more rep. Just to do it. Just to be better. For someone good who's no longer here. For someone good who many not be here much longer. For those who the world says don't deserve it. One more rep. Even when it sucks.

My six-word mission statement from GROWRUCK: For When They Can't, I Will.

I cherish the three other guys (and Chops' Dad) for getting their asses up to do some work. 'Cause when the chips are down and the s**t hits the fan, the people you want on your side are people willing to work.

RIP Cadre Roony.
