Showed up early to geek out with Geek Squad about Adult Swim and Rick and Morty. Then Fleetwood shows up so we had to grow up.
4th times the charm for YHC at TPE. After several setbacks my inaugural Q at the Pineapple finally arrived…and Pie Bar and Lucky Charms hit the snooze button. No worries, we had visits from Fleetwood, Mandals, and the epic return of Oddjob. Plus TPE regulars, Gekko and Geek Squad for our 9/11 memorial run. Time to get started.
Number of Pax: 6
Pax Names: Geek Squad, Gekko, Fleetwood, Mandals, Oddjob, Westside
Warm-O-Rama: We ran
The Thang: In honor of 9/11 the plan was to mix in 911 SSH's as we ran the trails. After the mosey down the concrete path behind the baseball fields we circled up just over the bridge to knock out the first 11. Only 900 to go!
Took a right and ran down the riverside stopping roughly every 4 minutes to knock out another 100 SSH's to break up the pain. 2 river crossings, duck under the bridge, and we keep running. Took a slight detour to the right just over 1.4 miles into uncharted territory where we circled up for another 100 SSH's. SSH count is at 400 now. Time to start heading back.
OYO run/SSH for the return run so that the gazelles can open it up a bit. It was a straight shot back to the parking lot so very little risk of getting lost. Mandals took off like a bat out of hell and Geek Squad wasn't far behind. The slower PAX stopped and knocked out another 300 SSH's on the return visit and then circled up in the parking lot to knock out the last 100 while the 2 gazelles ran to the end of the parking lot and back. Less than 30 seconds to spare and we all got our 911 complete. Just over 2.6 miles of trails due to stopping for the SSH.
Great way to honor the day men!
COT: Name-o-rama, praises and prayers. Iron PAX challenge at Vineyard tomorrow. Be there.
Naked Man Moleskin: To be honest, I was more nervous for the Pineapple this morning than I've been in a long time. The PAX here can really move and I didn't want to Q something that wouldn't push them so I tried to keep the exercises cardio related to keep their heart rate up. That was also the reason for the release run back, so they could really open it up. All in all, I had a blast and really love exploring the park. The only way to get better at running is to keep showing up, which is my plan. I look forward to what you boys have planned for future beatdowns and look forward to Q'ing here again myself.
Remember those that lost their lives today and the events that followed. We've all been affected by this tragedy in one way or another and the events have even helped shape who we are today. Never forget.
