The Thang: Mosey to basketball court.
Despite YHC intention and strong desire to provide crystal clear instructions, YHC wasted about 90 seconds of precious beatdown time trying to explain an exercise that was only clear in YHC's head: The Lions Den 1,000.
PAX to divide up in teams of 3, with 2 coupons per team. Man 1 is at one end of the basketball court with a coupon. Man 2 at the opposite end, also with a coupon. Man 1 and 2 begin their choice of exercise with coupon (curls, chest press, squat, etc) on their way to a collective 1,000, while man 3 lunges from man 1 to man 2. Man 3 takes man 2's place while man 2 runs backwards to take man 1's place, and so on... Once a team gets to 1,000, they are to jump in with another team to help knock out their reps. All teams finished within 1 minute of each other.
At this point, the PAX had had enough instruction from YCH and it was time for a change in leadership. Hartford to the rescue. Hartford took over the beatdown and instructed the PAX to head back to the flag. Waiting at the flag was clear, concise, easy to understand instruction. Starting with 5 Wolverine Burpees, then a lap. 60 Squats, then a lap. 60 Lunges (single count), then a lap. 60 Merkins, then a lap. 60 Monkey Humpers, then a lap. 60 Mountain Climbers, then a lap.
There was a lot of symbolism in the numbers. Each lap was 365 meters, 365 days in a year, the Lions Den has been open 1 year. Total of 1.1 miles for 1 year plus 1 week. And some other stuff having to do with the number of reps, which YHC didn't fully grasp.
The PAX finished just in time to do 10 Burpees in penance for a fallen flag, which YHC did not plant deep enough.
COT: One year ago YHC launched the Lions Den with help from a lot of men. It started out of a desire for a closer beatdown and Homeboy's insentient badgering. How grateful YHC is for that badgering, it would have been a shame to have missed out. Over the last year YHC has been challenged, stretched, and forced to grow. Third best decision ever. I love the men of the Lions Den in a way I cannot put into words. I am grateful. Humbled. Honored. I feel valued among you. I want you to know I value you. Each of you. F3 allows an avenue for me to fulfill what I believe to be my purpose in life. I am forever in your debt. It has been maybe the best year ever, and it is time to pass the flag.
Hartford is a man worthy of carrying the Lions Den flag and is our new Site Q, effective this morning. Hartford has always been a leader at the AO and I could not be more pleased he agreed to take a turn. Looking forward to your leadership, Hartford.... over to you. (Apologies for breaking pronoun protocol)
