Part of what makes The Happy Jack unique is yes, the 5K guarantee and the sustained, elevated heart rates; but fundamentally the same principles of any good ol’ F3 beatdown will be represented at THJ, just with some longer running intervals in between. That was ever true with the design and premise of the workout this morning, and on this humid Thursday, the PAX found itself gasping at times for air.
Number of Pax: 4
Pax Names: Legionnaire, Dandy, MSG, C4
Warm-O-Rama: MSG coming in hot striking right at the bottom of hour 5 on this 6th day of June and 75th anniversary of D-Day, we take off at a healthy clip across the full parking lot toward the main entrance and head left onto the track, stopping at the first post and conduct 10 cotton pickers, then heading to the next post behind the football field, 10 full count monkey humpers, and then onto the next post behind the LAX fields and hit 10 windmills. We then move to the LAX sidelines and get ready for some long hand Black Jack 21. 1 mile down already.
The Thang: Basically, traditional Black Jack 21 but with an extra exercise and an extra run across the 2nd LAX field. The three exercises were Catalina Wine Mixers, Reverse LBC, and Burpees. The count sequence went 1 x 20 x 1, 2 x 19 x 2, 3 x 18 x 3 . . . and so on as we conducted the first exercise, then hustled to the middle of the two field, conducted the next exercise, then sprinted across the 2nd field, completed the third exercise, and then all the way across both fields back to the start for the next count sequence. The burpees, followed by the long run back across and then an escalating count of catalina wine mixers did the trick. By the time the burpee count got into the sixes and sevens, it felt as if someone was literally sucking the air of you in this humidity. YHC and this QIC could tell it was getting touch as Cody the official F3 dog (easily the most posts of any dog, I dare say) would lie down while exercises were performed by the PAX, waiting to giddyup and go again. MSG remarked that he felt psychologically crushed upon contemplating hitting 20 x 1 x 20. All that said, Dandy seemed to have no trouble and helped pick up the six once we hit 10x11x10 and time was expiring. Over 2 miles were completed on the LAX fields during Black Jack 21. The PAX then does the dogs a favor and cools down with a trot to Cody's pond for a canine drink and dip, and then back around and up the hill as the flag was a calling. Three full Happy Jacks later and time on the nose, with 3.7 miles achieved.
COT: Continued prayers for Legionnaire's sister as she recovers, and prayers for YHC's mother as she has been recently diagnosed. Prayers for all our marriages and for any conflicts to be reconciled.
Naked Man Moleskin: Great to see MSG at The Happy Jack. Dandy seems like he just goes and goes like the EB, not a break in the stride.
