INTRO:

I’d been thinking about this Q since last week.  I knew I wanted the PAX to push themselves as most of us (except Homeboy, but not that it mattered) have been running at the Flying V on a weekly basis now.  5 miles is our normal distance but we trimmed it back some for a good ole 5K at a better pace.

WARM-O-RAMA:

We actually did something here! We took a lap to get the blood flowing before we actually started the “course.”

THE THANG:

After realizing, thanks to Hooch, that my directions about the beginning of the course were wrong, we quickly corrected and got everyone in the right direction.  Homeboy took off while Nomad and I kept up just enough to shout the turns for him before he was gone!

We ran through the neighborhood behind Canyon Burger winding around back to the traffic light at the Clinic entrance.  Continued up to the light of Arnold Mill and Main Street turning right onto Main Street.  We took the left side of the fork to Rusk St. and made our way through Robin’s Hood (I love a dad joke!!) We ran down Rusk to Robinhood Drive then Nottingham Drive to Sherwood Drive finally to Little John Lane before we circled back to Robinhood Drive and back to Rusk St.  We made our way back to Main Street and then ran far enough to double back for our 5k.

Now the original plan for the morning was to kick the running into high gear to push ourselves faster than our usual pace.  For me it did not work out as planned.  Culprit: Hills.  There were more hills than I remembered so I think for most of us our pace was about average.

We finished with plenty of time to add in some burpees and Mary.

CIRCLE OF TRUST:

We circled up and shared a few concerns and praises.  Homeboy shared with us about DoubleDown and we took a pic to support him.  Nomad had a great praise concerning his job situation and insurance.  It also served as a double praise as his M has been anxious to the point of health concerns in part due to the uncertainty here.  Gut Check also shared a praise concerning a client and the potential job security of some of his co-workers/employees.  Everything worked out and his guys will be able to stick around! I prayed us out and called it a day.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

When I tell people I wake up before 5 am to meet some guys to work out they always look at me sideways and say it’s crazy.  And it is crazy.  It is crazy that a bunch of guys who typically would not have crossed paths can get together to make themselves better in so many ways.  We build trust, support and accountability.  We come alongside one another to lift each other up when we fall and we are encouraged as our brothers do not leave us where they found us.
