INTRO:
YHC did a short notice pickup of this Q, and was rushing to come up with something. So I had some rough ideas in my head, from reading BBs, things I had wanted to do before, and just threw the spaghetti against the wall, or some such metaphor, to see what I came up with.
I ended up making mods on on my plan during the day at work, but thought I had a good idea of a simple yet grueling plan. I showed up and was happy to see Papa John coming in behind me with the flag. Once the boys all showed up we were ready to hit it.
WARM-O-RAMA:
YHC went ahead and announced that I was going to do a 0.0 style short mosey for the warmup and back to the flag to warmup on the nice dew covered lawn. Once we got to the grass it was announced this was going to be a special day at the Cheetah. A chance to avoid the cheese grater that is the parking lot, and go gloveless. For those so inclined I guess it would also save the back in the event of a shirtless workout. I hear some folk can’t keep those on…
Quick warmup on the lawn with SSH, Weed Pickers, Michael Phelps, Sun Gods, and some Twisted Merkins. Now on to the main event.
THE THANG:
The simple beatdown is as follows. YHC lead the men to the box/track behind our parking lot where we plant the flag, and told that we would be enjoying only 5 Burpees, then hitting a lap around the track. Air chair for the six. Round 2 would be 10 Sphinx Merkins (low plank, hands on ground like a sphinx, and push using triceps until elbows are straight and back down), followed by 5 burped, run, air chair for the six. This should go on each round adding a new fun activity with 5 more on the count, and then working our way back down.
The fun things were:
Exercise 1: Â 5x Burpees
Exercise 2: 10x Sphinx Merkins
Exercise 3: 15x Jump Squats
Exercise 4: 20x LBCs
Exercise 5: 25x Merkins
Exercise 6: 30x (kodiak count) American Hammers
Exercise 7: Side plank 35 second hold (then switch to other side)
Exercise 8: 40x Monkey Humpers
Exercise 9: 45x Carolina Dry Docks
Exercise 10…. we didn’t make it, but was to be a “peoples’ choice”
Thanks started off nicely with the burps and heading for the run. Sadly YHC always seems to underestimate the distances and time it will take us, so I was watching the clock on round 3 we made the audible that we would shorten the distance a bit to ensure we made it through the circuit as best as possible. All in all it worked well, although clearly we couldn’t speak much. Got some good chatter out of Cuban about his mission whilst we sweated it out.
At the end we moseyed back to the flag just in time to do a few imperial walkers, and did not make time for more mary.
CIRCLE OF TRUST:
Closed out with a bit of talk on the discipline it takes to do these things we do. It goes hand in hand with being a disciple. We need to know what we should do and have a plan ahead of time. For our disciple-ship we should be seeking to do for others, not what is best for us, or our will. Having the discipline to do this is much like our workouts. Knowing what you should do, making the HC beforehand of how we should respond to certain things, makes it much less of a decision in the moment. We do what we trained and prepared for. Getting up in the gloom, if you already made the decision, have the gear ready, and a plan… is much easier.
Prayers for PJ’s brother, for us a group to be ready for the opportunities we have before us, and continued prayer for Cricket and his family as well.
Naked-Man Moleskin:
Took the time to share about myself a bit (we didn’t have a 6th man). Shared how I have grown in faith, how important community is, and how it helped shape me to be stronger in my faith seeing how others responded and serve those in need.
Learned from Cuban the Maasai (spelling?) have to jump higher than their peers to avoid paying a dowry when they get married. Sadly doing 90 or so jump squats lead us to some 1 inch vertical jumps by the end. (That may be generous). I guess we are well off to not have had that type of test on us when getting married.
Learned that a timer is a requirement for some of those timed holds. Apparently seconds are faster for some of us.
All in all, a good morning with the pack.
